CADAM ACTIVITIES FOR 2005-2006

 

Dear Mr. President of the Interamerican Conference of Social Security, Vice-presidents, General Secretary of the CISS, Director of the CIESS, Presidents of the American Commissions, Subregional Coordinators, friends of Social Security, I hereby present to you the Activity Program carried out by the American Commission of Older Adults that I hope it will be satisfactory to you all.

 

Preliminary Antecedents
 

According to the meetings held before, the objective of this Commission is to spread the Recommendations stated in the Interamerican Gerontologic Plan enacted by the XX CISS General Assembly. The Interamerican Conference of Social Security has declared this year as the "Year to raise gerontologic awareness".

 

We also placed emphasis on the importance of working on Social Services provided to Older Adults of the Continent; especially to increase them in number.

 

Technical Meetings and Seminaries

 

The following meetings were held:

 
International Seminar "Social Services for Older Adults". It was held in Santiago de Chile,
 

Republic of Chile , between 27 and 29 July 2005. It was organized by CIEDESS, OISS, the Trade Union Association of Compensation Packages and Family Allowance ( Chile ), CISS and CADAM. It had the presence of Mr. Gabriel Martinez, General Secretary of the CISS.

   

III International Congress on Social Security: "A path to equality". Conflictive Aspects and

 

Unresolved Matters". It was held in Buenos Aires , Argentina , between 19 and 21 October 2005. It was organized by the Federation of Professional Councils in Economic Sciences of the City of Buenos Aires with the sponsorship of OISS, CISS and CADAM and the assistance of Dr. José Martinez Villalba, Director of CIESS.

   

Technical Meeting in the framework of the XXI CISS Annual Meeting, held in Mar del Plata,

 

Argentine Republic , between 8 and 9 November 2005. It is worth mentioning the massive participation of local experts on Social Security and Gerontology.

   

International Seminar "Challenges in the Health System: Comprehensive Care of Older

 

Adults". It was held between 1 and 3 December 2005 in La Habana, Cuba . It was organized by the Ministry of Work and Social Security of Cuba, CISS- Subregion V-, ISSSTELEON and CADAM. We are really grateful for the presence of ISSSTELEON and, in particular, Mr Ricardo H. Cavazos Galvan, Coordinator and General Director of CISS-Subregion V.

 

All the material of the Meetings and Seminaries has been posted in the Conference Web page.

 

Web site
 

The web site is being rebuilt with a new configuration. It is also being redesigned and updated so as to achieve the objective of posting a general document per country so as to consult and reflect as much information as possible. For that purpose, we invite all national responsibles to send the corresponding updates to the General Secretary.

 

Budget
 

We made a contribution of US$ 1,500 for the publication of the Seminar works held in Chile , which was in charge of CIEDESS. The same criterion was applied for the allocation of funds for the maintenance of the Web page and its rebuilding. A plane ticket was handed over to an expert in charge of a lecture that could not be held due to union trade conflicts in his country.

 

It was the first time that the budget was not fully executed as a consequence of what has been expressed before and the fact that the funds were not used for the Seminars.

 

Working Plan for 2006

 

With regard to the Working Plan for the rest of the year, we are planning to hold the XVIII CADAM Technical Meeting, in the framework of the XXII CISS General Assembly that will be held between 23 and 26 October in Cancun-Mexico. One of the subjects to deal with is the incorporation of Social Services to this Commission, as it was part of the Triennial Plan and the presentation of the first document "Manual for the Self-care of the Older Adult".

 

Moreover, we will deal with the implementation in the region of the "Gerontologic Plan-Interamerican Framework" and publish, together with the General Secretary, the recommendations approved by the XX CISS General Assembly.
